For a long time this blog has had encouragements posted 3 times a week to cover every day. It is now being evaluated because of some advertising that shows up with it that is counter to the principles of Recovery.  Since the posts are intended to help with recovery from Compulsive Gambling it is counter productive to have advertisements for Gambling establishments come up with it. In recent days there has been an increase in that type of advertising so for the next few weeks it will be down unless a solution can be found.

Pain In Recovery

We often struggle with recovery because there has been so much pain in our addiction. It haunts us and we seek to hide from it. Sadly the pain is part of the growing process of recovery. Without it we are simply ‘numb’ to reality.

Monday August 20, 2018

Remember that recovery is not a guarantee of instant repair. It is a guarantee of hard work ahead.

Tuesday August 21, 2018

Recovery is healing many wounds both to us and ones we have given. It will take time but will also be worth more than we could ever imagine!

Depression, Recovery And Hope!

It has been rough lately but we persevere despite being attacked and put down.  Struggles are a part of recovery no matter how long you have been in recovery. I will share my own experience. As Trouble flared in a group I found myself thinking back to my old ways of escape. I stopped myself but also had other thoughts.  Some are familiar and others have long been suppressed by my working recovery.

24 hours ago I was ready to ‘throw in the towel’ and let things end with respect to that group ( I created it to help and felt it was being destroyed). My fellowship of recovery talked me out of it. But still the pain was there. I considered drinking away my sorrows but that would solve nothing.  I began to have my severe depression set in and even as I prepared to write this considered the unthinkable.

It is because I am not perfect and yet have people around me who support recovery that such things do not happen. I will not let my depression, my addiction or other people prevent me from my recovery.

August 17, 18 and 19 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Thoughts for the weekend:

Recovery is knowing you can’t do it alone and that you don’t have to.

Hope can come from pain.

Recovery is allowing yourself to feel but not allowing the feelings to control your actions.

In The Moment!

tenor (43)

Sometimes we get to far ahead of ourselves and sometimes we are behind the curve. Learning to just be ‘in the moment’ is key to recovery because we can’t do anything about yesterday and tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet BUT this moment will help determine the next moment. If we are aware of where we are (or when we are) it tends to keep us focused.

Monday August 13, 2018

This post is coming out late but it still is in this moment. remember to be focused.  Recovery is being present in the moment.

Tuesday August 14, 2018

Recovery is a journey and it needs to have a safe place to get the food to flourish. Allow yourself to find peace!

Males and Females have some similarities and some differences in recovery if you are struggling with where you are consider two groups.

Compulsive Gambling Recovery Help Connect  is where you will find help regardless of your gender and it can help with your recovery.

Grow: Gambling Recovery of Women is the sister group that is helpful for women who need the connection in a safe place first.  It is not a place where you will find the things sometimes seen because it is JUST FOR WOMEN! Once you find hope and strength it can make all the difference.

Neither site allows for ‘predatory’ behavior but ladies may want to ‘get their feet wet with the all women group and then join the Original  Group for even more resources!

Don’t Do Recovery Alone!

We can’t beat the disease of Compulsive Gambling alone no matter how much we think we can. People can have a lot of ‘Abstinence’ but not a day of Recovery! Don’t be someone with Abstinence because they have transferred their high to being recovery powerhouses who think they are better than others. Someone who can give advice but only to get a ‘fix’ they are not even aware of because it feels good. Recovery is something that is constant learning from others regardless of how long but not of how humble.

Encouragement in recovery involves being part of a family so consider these options.  For those who are a part of these groups, I encourage you to share on the page that this is posted on or on the blog itself your experience. If you are reading this on Facebook commenting there will not be something seen outside of the group you are commenting on. Only if you comment on the blog itself will you be posting publicly.

This weekend consider the places you can get help. If you are on Facebook consider checking into some groups. Below are some suggestions. Below the brief description is the description for the group as listed on Facebook.  they are all connected and in some cases it is best to be a part of the main group as well as the subgroup listed. Some can only be accessed if you are part of the main group and others are open to all interested. They are closed groups and you are protected from having outside people read what is there so if privacy is needed in recovery these offer it.

You Are Important! Recovery Matters!

Too often we think that our voice isn’t important or that no one cares about our recovery. Oddly we find it false if we look beyond our blinders.  People are right there in front of us expressing their interest. Then it becomes our turn. What will we do with it? Remember that while someone cares about us they also have to care for their own well being. That means we have to reach out and be willing to accept what is given.

Wednesday August 8, 2018

Be willing to accept a hand up but also to give a hand up. Together we can but alone we can’t.  Remember your value to others and in turn remember that value of others to you!
Thursday August 9, 2018

A small act of kindness can make all the difference in the world BUT when that fails to get a message across then a sift kick cant hurt either!  Remember that while people are there to help you they are not there to carry you!  You have to walk with someone to gain recovery not sit in the wagon and be pulled along!

Courage In Recovery!

The definition of Courage is: A mental or moral strength to go forward and persevere, and withstand danger, fear or difficulty without passing off the blame to others. In the last few days I have seen courage lived out in several ways. Even if you don’t think you have courage it is possible that you demonstrate it in your recovery.  It can be as simple as reaching out for help or as complicated as facing that which you never wanted to.  How have you shown courage in recovery today?

Wednesday August 1, 2018

Simply live this moment of recovery as it is and someone who has been there or who is looking to be there will see your courage. A moment clean despite someone trying to get you to go is courage beyond measure. Remember that in this moment you are clean and that makes you courageous in that moment.

Thursday August 2, 2018

Courage can be seen in someone trying to help another person by reaching out to someone who has more energy to help them. Courage is contagious when shared. Be courageous enough to ask for help when helping someone. If someone needs directions but you are not able be sure to ask someone to help you that is able.

Looking In The mirror!

In each moment we have an urge it can be helpful to remind ourselves that we are clean and that the urge will pass. That we can ride it out. Remember to reach out to others and use the tools you have daily.  Consider looking in the mirror and reminding yourself what this meme says:

Friday July 27, 2018

I have value even when I feel I don’t. Remember that there are people around you that would love to hear from you when you’re struggling.

Saturday July 28, 2018

In each moment you are not alone even when you are in a room by yourself. Consider joining groups that can help your recovery.

Sunday July 29, 2018

Don’t struggle alone! If you have a lot of relapses and/ or Urges reach out to get the help available. Consider getting support.

Recovery From Simon And Garfunkel !

Reading this song I realized something so what can you hear when you read it?
The Sound of Silence
Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, “The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls”
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Let your pain out and sit in the darkness for a moment while looking for the light of Dawn.  It will come.
Tuesday July 24, 2018
Recovery is a process be willing to sit in the pain then live in the recovery.

TUG (Tough Urge Guard)

An Urge to gamble can be hard to fight but despite the difficulty there are ways to fight and win more than lose.  So are you fighting urges without having the best tools for you?  Consider looking at what tools are available!

Wednesday July 18, 2018

In early recovery and sometimes later it can creep up on us. You know what I’m talking about.  That urge that comes out of nowhere (or so we think).  Consider ‘surfing’ past it.  Check out what you can through recovery communities of every sort!

Thursday July 19, 2018

Recovery is taking bad character flaws and channeling them toward a good thing in stead of letting it take you where you don’t want to go!

Check out the new group for struggling with urges!
