Getting ahead of the moment we are in can be distracting. If we want recovery it is important to be in this moment because the future moments depend on it.

Today I am clean but I am not alone in this day. I am already part of decades of clean time. I don’t need to look forward to the future to be a part of it.

Recovery Is not about past failures or future moments. It is about right now!
Often we start something new and forget we don’t have to do it alone. Remember to allow yourself to be part of something more. Accept help. Look for opportunities to be helpful. Be focused on being open to opportunity.

Recovery isn’t just a word it’s action. Accept help when you need it and give it when you are able.

If a service is available and it might help be willing to accept it. Especially when it’s free. Meetings, Phone lists and hope are all worth having.
While I know it is hard to accept help, here is an offer and an opportunity to give input.
I am Bernard Zeitler, a recovering compulsive gambler. My last bet was November 21, 2007 and since then I have worked to write, develop and offer services to help others. My background to do what I am offering includes years of my addiction and years of recovery. I also have the following background:
- Author of 4 books to help addicts and support people through the recovery process.
- Bachelors in Social Work with a minor in Psychology.
- Pre Ministry Studies and generalized studies in religion.
- Years of practice in customer service, mental health and several other fields.
What I need from my readers is input on what day and time is best for them for a meeting. (Include timezone and country when responding.
I also need to know if people are interested in the services offered which include:
- Individual counseling through phone, text, email and video.
- Group meetings for addiction both Step and generalized.

I get ahead of myself sometimes thinking about what my recovery will be next year without realizing that it is about right now. In those moments I look at the world around me and ask what difference will it make if I’m not living it now?

Having made a decision to accept my addiction and the need to change, I focus on getting across the bridge of this moment clean.

When I am feeling my weakest in my sobriety, I can reach out and a hand will be there to help me up. The key is reaching out for it.
Sunday August 27, 2017
Each moment I am clean is not alone. I am part of the larger group and that makes my moment part of decades. Choosing to see the bigger picture helps me see the value of my own moment.
While I am late getting this out, I was considering events that have happened over the past few weeks. This question came up: What will my recovery legacy be?
I recently lost a mentor that affected me greatly in my path of recovery. Several people I know have lost someone recently. The eclipse was a short reminder that the ‘lights’ can go dim or out. So remember that each day of recovery is a day of new legacy. Your recovery, no matter how rocky or long, will have affected someone else to the point that they will chose recovery too!

Today is your legacy to remind you what tomorrow can be. Never discount the moment you are in.
Thursday August 24, 2017
Recovery is building hope for someone by remembering that they will hear of your legacy even after you are gone.
It is hard to believe that today an event will happen that is truly once in a lifetime but it is true. Total Solar Eclipses are rare and when they happen it is best to be sober. Our addiction has taken so many things from us and recovery has the reward we seek.
Monday August 21, 2017
In recovery today we can experience what will not happen again in our lifetime. If our addiction had it’s way we would miss this experience. Remember that recovery has more good to show than the addiction has bad to help us hide from.
Tuesday August 22, 2017
Addiction blinds but recovery opens the eyes to what has been hidden. Let yourself see what you have been missing.
Recovery is a moment by moment growth process. We often forget that and want instant improvements. It is more important to be rejuvenated in this moment than at some point in the future. Without this moment the future can’t happen.

Recovery may be an individual process but when each individual is put together it adds up! Each moment is part of a decade created by the whole.
Saturday August 19, 2017
We may have lost friends when we started recovery but we gained a family at the tables.
Sunday August 20, 2017
Today I am clean. In this moment I am clean. That is what matters right now!
When you feel your life is a ‘Lemon’ and the pain is getting to you remember that recovery is a desert at first. In that desert you need to have something to drink so make ‘Lemonade’. It may be what gets you through to the other side of that early struggle.
Wednesday August 16, 2017
Some of the pain we feel is from the loss of our ‘lover’ but some is because of what we took from ourselves. More pain comes from lost relationships and connections. Remember the pain but also think of the thirst that the addiction created and how it is being quenched ‘one moment at a time’.

To gain a better life sometimes we have to drink sour past experiences to get to the sweet drink that is coming.
Each morning is a new day but what is done in the moment leads me through that day. Start with the Sunrise and remember the moment matters more than the past mistakes made.
Monday August 14, 2017
Today is the beginning of the new week but it is also the first moment of a new opportunity. It’s all in what we do with it.
Tuesday August 15, 2017
In this moment we can define what happens and what we are going to do. Chose to begin it with the hope of a moment clean!
As a recovering Compulsive Gambler it is still a part of me to have urges. It is in my nature. As a human being there are many things that are in my nature but it is what I do with this knowledge that makes the difference. Relapse is because of the addict nature. Once we are set on a path we are likely to go with it unless we acknowledge the nature that is there and deal with it.
Friday August 11, 2017
Recovery goes against the disease and because the disease is tied to our ‘nature’, we have to develop an understanding of it to stay clean. Remember that just because it is in our nature doesn’t mean it has to be followed. Look for ways to change the interaction of our nature with our well being.
Saturday August 12, 2017
Because something is natural for us to do does not mean it is what we will do. Developing habits to counter that nature means realizing that nature can be overcome by environment.
Sunday August 13, 2017
The addictive nature can be changed by conscious effort to develop an outlet for it that can create a new path to travel.
