Maine is Gambling Revenue low treatment spending not much better

Maine has an estimated 29,242(2.2%) of adults believed to presently have signs of a gambling problem.  Maine brings in $327.52 million in revenue from its 1,739 electronic machines, a single Casino, Racetrack Casinos, a state Lottery and Charitable Gambling. In comparison to other states it ranks 42nd in revenue and sadly 37th in treatment spending.  The per capita spending in 2013 was 4 cents which is well below the average of 32 cents.

In 2007 Maine passed legislation which how funds would be spent for addressing problem gambling and that the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services would be administering it.  At this time money is just beginning to be used for problem gambling treatment in the form of 2 pilot sites.
