Washington DC has an estimated 11,546(2.2%) of adults believed to presently have signs of a gambling problem. The District ranks 45th in revenue and only has a traditional lottery and charity gambling. The total revenue brought in is $252.15 million.
Presently no funding is provided for treatment and there is not information provided by the DC lottery commission for help. All help for problem gamblers is provided through the national Problem Gamblers Hotline out of Louisiana as a result of action from the National Council on Problem Gambling. Sadly the one place that has our national capital has shown no desire to provide help for Compulsive Gambling. Perhaps because it is not a state no responsibility is felt. With a long history of political fundraising and special interest groups pushing their agendas, it is no wonder that addiction problems are not a priority. As a National Capital it should be an example but instead it hides behind political agendas.
